Friday 21st February – Saturday 28th March, 2020 – TALES AMONG THE TREES

I’m very excited to announce that, as a follow-up to the very successful Tales Among the Trees course run in conjunction with MEA in October/November there is funding for another one, this time based around Cushendall/Glenarriff. The emphasis is on exploring nature in the context of storytelling, folklore and cultural heritage. Activities could include forest walks, sharing memories and anecdotes, looking at traditional stories and learning about the folklore of the trees. It is suitable for storytellers and non-storytellers alike; all you need is a love of nature and stories. It will take place indoors with some time spent out in nature, weather permitting. Participants will have the opportunity (only if they wish) to have a go at telling some traditional tales. You need to be available on Friday mornings from February 21st for six weeks and on Saturday March 28th when we will share what we have learned at an event for friends and family from 2-4pm. We hope to organise field trips to other areas of interest. And the best thing is, it costs absolutely nothing! What better way to enjoy watching the trees begin to bud in the early spring? I will be running this one jointly with Karen Edwards from Carnlough.

If you have any questions or to sign up, just email me (click the email icon at the top right of the page menu). Feel free to pass this on to anyone you think might enjoy it!

Financially supported by the PHA and managed by Northern Area Community Network:
A special nature/storytelling experience funded by the Public Health Agency’s Healthy Spaces programme will commence on Friday February 21st and will run weekly for six weeks from 10.30am-1pm starting in the Old Schoolhouse, Cushendall.

This course is designed to encourage awareness and appreciation of nature around us, especially trees, by exploring storytelling, folklore, a sense of place and local history. The course will introduce participants to a variety of stories with tips on how to tell them, if appropriate, and may include visits to other locations. The course will culminate in an event on Saturday, March 28th. The course will be led by professional storytellers Janice Witherspoon and Karen Edwards and will feature other local storytellers. This course is free to attend and participants must be over 18.

Saturday 28th March, 2020 – TALES AMONG THE TREES finale

On Saturday 28th March from 2-4pm (venue TBA), the finale of the Tales Among the Trees project will take place. This will be led by a group who have taken part in a 6 week course exploring trees, storytelling and folklore and this final event is open to the public. All are welcome – do come along and support my wonderful students!
