Friday 18th October – Saturday 30th November, 2019 – TALES AMONG THE TREES

I’m very excited to announce that I will be leading a course that is starting very soon in Larne and may be of interest to you. The emphasis is on exploring nature in the context of storytelling, sharing memories and anecdotes and looking at the wisdom of traditional tales. It is suitable for storytellers and non-storytellers alike; all you need is a love of nature and stories. It will take place indoors but some time will be spent out in nature, weather permitting. You need to be available on most of the Fridays and Saturday 30 November when we will share what we have learned at a public event from 2 to 4pm. There will be two field trips to Islandmagee and Glenarm on two of the Fridays.
And it costs absolutely nothing! What better way to enjoy watching the trees change colour and lose their leaves? See details of how to sign up below and email me if you have any questions. Feel free to pass this on to anyone you think might enjoy it:

A special storytelling course funded by the EU’s PEACE IV ‘Your Place Our Space’ programme will commence on Friday 18 October and will run weekly for eight weeks, from 10.30am to 1pm in Dixon Park, Larne.
This course is designed to encourage awareness and appreciation of nature around us, especially trees, by exploring storytelling, folklore, a sense of place and local history. The course will give participants a wealth of stories with tips on how to tell them and will include two field trips. The course will culminate in a public event on Saturday 30 November during Tree Week. The course will be led by professional storyteller Janice Witherspoon, with contributions from Liz Weir, Audrey Kyle and other local storytellers. This course is free to attend and participants must be over 18.

Sunday 3rd November, 2019 – SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE STORYTELLER’S HOUSE

As the buzz from the Glens Storytelling festival dies down, if you fancy a quiet wee story session by the fire this Sunday, drop in to my regular series of storytelling sessions on the first Sunday of every month from 4-6 pm at the Storyteller’s house in Glenarm. Come along to listen to a few yarns or tell one yourself. Email me if you need more information/location, or just drop in. This is a free event but donations are welcome to cover costs and help build up a fund to organise more storytelling events in and around Glenarm for adults and children.

Saturday 30th November, 2019 – TALES AMONG THE TREES finale

On Saturday 30th November from 2-4pm in Dixon Park in Larne, the finale of the Tales among the Trees project will take place. This will be led by a group who have taken part in an 8 week course exploring trees, storytelling and folklore and this final event is open to the public. All are welcome – do come along and support my wonderful students!
